Client Testimonials

"We engaged Normalis for our Section 17A assessment after the corporate liability provisions came into effect. What impressed us was how methodically they worked through our organisational structure and supplier relationships. The policy documentation they produced was thorough and, importantly, something our board could actually understand."

"Lim Chee Wei has managed our company secretarial requirements for three years now. SSM filings are handled without me having to think about them, and when we restructured last year, the board resolutions and minutes were prepared correctly the first time. Exactly what a company secretary should do."

"Our subsidiary has fairly complex tax reporting across multiple income streams. Rajan reviewed the whole position and identified two areas we had been handling incorrectly. The IRBM submission he assisted with was accepted without issue. The process took a little longer than I hoped, but the outcome was right."

"We are a Japanese-owned subsidiary and our parent company wanted assurance that our Malaysian secretarial and compliance obligations were being met. Normalis gave us a clear picture of where we stood and has managed the ongoing requirements since. Communication has been straightforward and they respond quickly."

"As an individual with rental income and a small business, my tax affairs are more involved than a standard employment situation. Normalis reviewed everything, told me clearly what needed to be corrected, and handled the submission. The fee was reasonable and there were no surprises in the billing."

March 2025

"We commissioned the anti-corruption compliance engagement because our largest customer requires suppliers to have an adequate procedures framework in place. Nadia walked us through the whole process and the final documentation met what our customer needed. The training materials she designed for our staff were practical, not just theoretical."

Client Situations & Outcomes

How Normalis has addressed specific situations across our three practice areas.

Multi-Stream Income Review for a Private Individual

Challenge

A professional with employment income, rental from two properties, and income from a private company directorship had been filing a combined return that did not distinguish appropriately between income types. An IRBM audit query had been received.

Approach

Normalis conducted a full review of three years of tax returns. Income was reclassified correctly, allowable deductions were identified for the rental properties, and a response to the IRBM was prepared addressing the audit query with supporting documentation.

Outcome

The IRBM query was resolved without further escalation. The client's forward tax position was restructured, and a review process was put in place for subsequent years. Engagement completed in nine weeks.

Section 17A Adequate Procedures Framework for a Trading Company

Challenge

A mid-sized trading company with approximately 80 staff and a network of third-party agents had no formal anti-bribery framework in place. A new customer — a government-linked company — required evidence of adequate procedures before formalising the contract.

Approach

Normalis mapped the company's risk exposure across procurement, sales, and agent relationships. An anti-bribery policy was drafted, a reporting channel framework was established, and staff training materials were developed for delivery across three sessions.

Outcome

The company was able to demonstrate an adequate procedures framework to the prospective customer's compliance team. The contract was formalised. Engagement was completed in seven weeks from initial assessment to final documentation.

Restructuring Secretarial Records for a Foreign-Owned Subsidiary

Challenge

A European company's Malaysian subsidiary had not maintained its statutory records in order since a change of secretary two years prior. Annual returns had been filed late in one year, and board minutes for several resolutions were missing or incomplete.

Approach

Normalis conducted a full statutory records review, identified gaps, and prepared the necessary documentation to bring records into order. An explanation was provided to the parent company on the Malaysian regulatory requirements and the status of all outstanding matters.

Outcome

Records were brought into compliance within four weeks. Normalis was retained as company secretary on an ongoing basis. The parent company's annual compliance review confirmed all Malaysian obligations were current at next audit.
